Bob, Ed Porter, head of Printmaking at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and Fran Kruschen, director of the Acadia University Art Gallery, plan an opening for the annual exhibition of the Nova Scotia Printmakers Association.
Bob's relationship with Acadia University has had its bumps and band aids. Shortly after graduation from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in 1996, Bob's painting, "Oh! Canada!", was selected for the cover of the art gallery's exhibition catalogue celebrating regional artists. But the university president, Kelvin Ogilvie, pulled it from the presses and replaced it with something he liked. Bob got lots of free publicity across Canada. Not bad for a new grad.
Bob with his Williams Award from the Manitoba Historical Society in recognition of his very successful book, Barns of Western Canada, An Illustrated Century. The book sold more than 16,000 copies. It told the settlement stories of immigrant farm families from around the world and illustrated the impact of their ethnic influences through materials, design, and construction techniques brought from their old countries.
In 1970, Bob and Judy got hitched in Brandon, Manitoba. Bob went dancing with his mom, Sally, and Judy got a dance lesson from Bob's dad, Jim. Not a bad start.
